Digital Readiness Audit
Structured rapid assessment of your company digital maturity across 6 dimensions. Useful on its own to identify priorities — and especially useful when preparing MADEIRA2030 applications, where most notices require an initial diagnostic.
How it works: read each question and answer mentally (or write down) ✓ Yes / ◐ Partly / ✗ No. Each dimension has 4 questions; answering "Yes" to 3 or 4 means you are in good shape there; fewer than that flags a priority area.

dimension 01
Online presence
The digital point of contact with customers, partners, and Google.
- Do you have your own website (not just social media), with HTTPS, mobile-optimised, and loading under 3 seconds?
- Is the website available in at least one target-market language (PT) and ideally a second (EN, ES, DE, FR depending on target customer)?
- Do you have a Google Business Profile (Google Maps) filled out with current photos, hours, contact info, and review responses?
- Is the domain owned by the company (not by an old supplier), and do you have full access to the hosting / DNS account?
dimension 02
Operational tools
The software that keeps the company running day to day.
- Do you have AT-certified billing software, integrated with your management system (ERP) or at least with accounting export?
- Do you have a structured CRM or client database — not scattered Excel sheets?
- Do you have centralised team communication (Microsoft 365, Google Workspace, Slack, etc.) on professional accounts (not personal emails)?
- Do suppliers and customers receive documents (invoices, contracts, proposals) via consistent digital channels — not printed and posted?
dimension 03
Processes and digitalisation
What is documented and automated vs what lives in one person’s head.
- Are key processes (sales, service, production, delivery, post-sale) documented as manuals or workflows?
- Is there at least one active automation (proposal sending, payment reminders, post-sale follow-up) — vs everything manual?
- Does the company keep running if the key person (manager, partner) is away for two weeks, or does everything stop?
- Can customers do any operation self-service (booking, ordering, quote request, scheduling) without phoning?
dimension 04
Data and measurement
Knowing what is working requires measuring what is happening.
- Do you have website analytics (GA4 or alternative) and look at the data at least monthly?
- Do you know what a customer is worth (LTV) and what it costs to acquire one (CAC), or have these never been calculated?
- Are monthly management reports produced automatically from systems, or still hand-compiled in Excel?
- Is there one primary KPI — just one — that the whole team knows and tracks (revenue, occupancy, NPS, repurchase, conversion, etc.)?
dimension 05
Team skills
Technology is only worth as much as the competence of those operating it.
- Is the key team comfortable with the digital tools the company uses, or is there still resistance / dependency on a single person?
- Has there been digital training in the last 24 months (formal or informal) — not just mandatory health and safety?
- Do new hires have a documented digital onboarding, or are they trained side-by-side by observation?
- Does the company hire external suppliers for marketing, web, or AI work, or is there minimum internal competence to manage those suppliers?
dimension 06
AI and advanced automation
What separates companies actually using AI from those still just hearing about it.
- Have you identified at least one concrete use case where AI could save hours/week or open a new channel (multilingual customer service, content generation, data analysis, repetitive-task automation, etc.)?
- Have you tested accessible AI tools (ChatGPT, Copilot, Gemini, Claude) on at least one real process and measured impact?
- Does the company have its own data (customers, transactions, content, operational history) structured enough to feed an AI solution, or is a prior data-organisation phase still needed?
- Do you know at least one verified AI / automation provider in Madeira, or have you no idea who to ask?
How to interpret the result
Count "✓ Yes" answers per dimension. Sum the total across all 6 (maximum 24). Use the reading below to see where the company stands:
- 0–8: Early digital journey. Before applying for funds, it makes sense to invest 2-3 months in fundamentals (website, basic tools, GA4).
- 9–16: Average maturity — most Madeira SMEs. Solid baseline for applications with technology-upgrade or skills components.
- 17–24: High maturity. Worth applying to innovation, internationalisation, applied-AI, or expansion programs.
The lowest-scoring dimension is usually the first priority — even when another one feels more "strategic".
